Getting started and pricing

What does Crank cost?

Crank is $19 per internal team member per month, or $190 per team member per year with annual billing. Client contacts do not need paid seats.

Do my clients need an account or a paid seat?

No. A client contact receives a signed link by email to view and reply to their request. They do not need a firm login or a paid team seat.

Can I start with one client and without connecting QuickBooks?

Yes. Add a client and contact manually, then try one real project or client request. A QuickBooks connection is optional.

Can my team work in the same firm workspace?

Yes. Invite your team, assign work and view it across clients. Crank has Owner, Admin, Manager and Member roles with different permissions.

Projects and recurring work

Does Crank create monthly bookkeeping work automatically?

Yes. Build a reusable project template, then schedule it for a client monthly, quarterly or yearly. When the scheduled date arrives, Crank creates that period’s project and its tasks. See how recurring work works.

Can I create a project that does not repeat?

Yes. Create a one-off project for a client without setting up a recurring schedule.

Can templates assign tasks and due dates?

Yes. A template can contain to-do lists and tasks with default assignees and due-date offsets. You can also edit the work after the project is created.

What if a client does not need work this month?

You can skip the next scheduled project with a reason and keep the schedule active for later periods. You can also pause a schedule.

How do I see overdue work and what is waiting on a client?

The Today dashboard highlights work needing attention. The firm board, My work and Team views show assignments across clients, and a client’s service calendar shows the status of that client’s work. Explore the monthly workflow.

Can my team discuss tasks and attach files?

Yes. Each task has its own discussion and files. Projects can hold files too, so the supporting material stays with the work.

Client requests and communication

What does a client see when I send a request?

They get an email with a signed link to the request page. There they can read what you need, reply and attach files. They do not see your internal task board. See client requests.

Can I ask for an answer as well as a document?

Yes. A request can ask for information, documents or confirmation. The client’s replies and attachments stay in the request conversation.

Can I send the same request every month?

Yes. Request automations can send a request to a chosen client contact monthly, quarterly or yearly, with an owner and an optional due date.

Can Crank follow up when a client has not replied?

Yes. Send a reminder yourself or set automatic reminders every 3, 7 or 14 days while the request is waiting on the client.

Can a request be tied to a bookkeeping project?

Yes. You can link a request to a client project, and the project shows its related requests.

Can I message a client without creating a request?

Yes. The Inbox supports general client conversations and file attachments. Requests have their own conversation for the specific item you are waiting to receive.

What happens when a request is finished or no longer needed?

Mark it complete or cancel it. You can reopen a completed or canceled request if you need to continue the conversation.

Accounting systems and files

Does Crank replace QuickBooks Online?

No. Crank organizes the client work around the books. Transactions, reconciliations and accounting records stay in your accounting software.

What does the QuickBooks Online connection actually do?

You can select customers to import from one connected QBO company. Crank links clear matches to existing clients, creates other client records, and lets you add or update a QBO customer from a client record. These are deliberate import and update actions; it does not sync transactions. Read about the QBO connection.

Can I use Crank if a client uses another accounting platform?

Yes. You can manage the client’s work in Crank and record their accounting platform on the client profile. That field is for reference; QBO is the operational accounting integration.

Where do client files go?

Files attached to requests, conversations, projects and tasks stay with those records in Crank. For request files and replies, an owner or admin can export copies to a configured Dropbox, Zoho WorkDrive or S3-compatible destination. Originals remain in Crank.

Can clients see my internal notes and tasks?

No. Client links open the relevant request or message conversation. Your team’s projects, task discussions, notes and firm views remain in the internal workspace.
